  1. Reactions from sport psychologists about mental health's emergence from Tokyo Olympics
Mettle Minds Podcast
Athlete Health and Performance
The Biles Effect
Sport psychologists Dr. Les Podlog and Dr. John Heil discuss Simone Biles decision to withdraw from a few events at the Tokyo Olympics, and her move's impact on the world of sport. They examine the underlying issues in a way that is sensitive to the everyday reality of sport, but informed by sport science.
They discuss:
  • athlete mental health,
  • injury risk,
  • psychological readiness,
  • athletes’ rights,
  • organizational culture, cumulative stress and
  • critical incidents.
They also touch on remarkable feats and traumatic growth, the enduring impact of the ideals of the Greek Olympics on the culture of contemporary sport, and lastly, advocacy and the importance of seizing the moment as an opportunity for change.
2 . Great swimming in Florida! Whew.
Thanks for a wonderful Summer Blast Senior Championships. Did you see us on NBC in the park at the North Shore Aquatic Center for our the watch party for Bobby Finke's 1500?

3 . Open water swimming in Virginia with ISCA's East Coast Championships
Join us in September in western Virginia for the ISCA East Coast Open Water Festival. Save the date. The meet details are not yet published. None have signed up, yet. But expect the sign-ups to come in a week or two. Expect a fun weekend with some extra, new, fun and enriching activities at the lake this year.

4 . ISCA's Hall of Fame Coaches Summit has been delayed as we can't meet in Florida now
Sadly, the slated August Hall of Fame Coaches Summit has been postponed to the spring of 2022. The rise in the DELTA strain of Covid and the spiking number of cases in Florida, and elsewhere, makes it too difficult to host an indoor event as we had hoped. We'll reset the stage again in the spring of 2022 with our wonderful line-up of speakers and give the honored guests the due they deserve to a larger audience mingling among better conditions.
Coaches, do what you can to acquire the funding and time away from your squads so that you and your entire coaching staff can attend this spring. A number of coaching staffs were set to attend, as a group. These cohorts and coaching staff experiences, working as a learning community, is a fantastic way to advance your programs effectiveness.
5 . NIL = Name, Image, Likeness
Something new to the college sports landscape -- NIL issues. The rules have changed and more changes are brewing too. If you have any interest in NIL matters, opt into a different email discussion list harbored at a new ISCA site, NIL.SwimISCA.org.
